Australian pool fence owners have long been requesting a simple and cost-effective way to RETROFIT their slamming spring hinge glass gate for a Polaris Soft-Close Gate System.
This may seem like a simple enough job, however there are underlying challenges that have typically made that a pricey and sometimes difficult undertaking.
GLASS GATE THICKNESS – WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Due to limitations of weight that spring hinges can endure, the vast majority of spring hinges gates are either 8mm or 10mm thick, where as the rest of the glass fence panels are all 12mm. Until now, Polaris Soft Close Hinges were specifically designed to be installed on the much heavier, safer and sturdier 12mm glass gates. This typically meant that a new glass gate of upgraded thickness was required to RETROFIT to a Polaris Gate System.
GLASS PROCESSING FOR GATE AND FENCE PANELS – SURELY, THEY’RE ALL THE SAME?
Did you know that 99% of all Australian glass pool gates are pre-processed in China with pre-set hole locations for preselected gates hinge and latching hardware? Simply put, the consumers either receive little to no option for gate hardware options or they are advised the costs are prohibitive to work outside of this. Keep in mind there is no one standard as to how glass is processed for a glass pool fence or gate. Every manufacturer either creates their own based on design or copies what is most prevalent in the market so as to “piggy back” the commonly accepted glass panels being stock in Australia. Polaris Hinge revolutionised glass gates over a decade ago by introducing “cut-outs” into glass gates and hinge panels. However, this limited our customer’s ability to have access to our Polaris Hinges when the glass gate was installed on 8mm-10mm glass and processed with simple holes instead of a Polaris Cut Out.
